The objective of this
Project is to digitalize and make available through the web information of
circa 4000 specimens of bees currently deposited at the Laboratory of
entomology, Universidad de las Américas Puebla, Mexico. This collection is
an important depository of native bees of the semi-arid region of
Tehuacán-Cuicatlán in Central Mexico. It holds 3500 specimens from this area
and about 1000 specimens from other regions in the State of Puebla. The
collection has been developed in collaboration with expert taxonomists in
North America (USDA Bee Laboratory, Logan, Utah; Snow Museum U of Kansas;
University of York; Estación de Biología Chamela). This body of information
will be made available to potential users through a web page at UDLAP and
the digital web of IABIN, in coordination with the IABIN focal point in the
country. Data structure
will follow the standards defined by IABIN and the Darwin Core. The project
will be developed in 5 months and it will cost USD $9,063. The project
requests USD $ 2,948 from IABIN. |
