1.      Summary:

Aves & Conservación (A&C) – BirdLife Ecuador, has been collaborating with IABIN since 2008 and soon we will provide on-line more than 90,000 bird records (>300,000 individuals) for free. In the scope of the proposed project A&C aims to digitize information, among others, regarding the taxonomy, biology and status of 842 of the more than 1,600 bird species of Ecuador. We plan to complete the information on the remaining species in a second phase of this project. The availability of this information is fundamental for optimizing natural resources management. The users will be conservation organizations, development agencies, and governmental institutions. A&C is leading the formation of the Ecuadorian Vertebrate Monitoring Network (MOVE-EC). The information on species will widen the analysis options of the bird records stored in the corresponding database. A&C will continue incorporating new information in the SSTN / IABIN database and will actively promote that other members of the MOVE-EC network will do the same. This guarantees that the information on species will be updated in the long-term. The compliance of the proposed activities will be assessed through five quantifiable and various impact indicators.
