             Summary

Aves & Conservación (A&C) / BirdLife in Ecuador is a non-governmental organization. A&C and their collaborators have collected 90.000 records of 340.000 bird individuals. There are 20.000 additional records already published. These data are neither available in the IABIN format, nor accessible via Internet. Altogether, these data contain information on 1.200 species, 75 % of the country’s avifauna. They were collected in almost all provinces, bio-geographical regions, habitats, and altitudinal ranges of Ecuador. The availability of this information is fundamental for optimizing natural resources management. Users will be conservation organizations, development agencies, and governmental institutions. Furthermore, A&C is creating of the Ecuadorian Network for the Monitoring of Vertebrates (MOVE-EC), a group of organizations interested in using an innovative and standardized monitoring method. The MOVE-EC Network will collect thousands of records from several vertebrate groups each year, which will be stored in a centralized database. A&C will incorporate its data in the IABIN database and, furthermore, will actively promote that other users of the MOVE-EC database will also share their data. This will guarantee the long-term increase of records and the updating of the information on each particular species.
