         Summary

This project seeks the conformation of a computerized database containing the information of 51.200 specimens and 6.900 observations from the Zoological Collections of the National Museum of Costa Rica (MNCR) in a one-year period. The information comprises specimens of birds, mammals and butterflies that span over 100 years of scientific collecting history of the country. The information will be hosted in a database developed using FileMaker® software and implemented according to IABIN standards of information management and under the supervision of the curators and technical support of a computer programmer from the MNCR. Previous involvement of the MNCR in similar initiatives (i.e. GBIF) has provided the needed experience in specimens’ information management and integration in digitalized networks of public distribution requested by IABIN standards.
