1. Summary: |
During the last decade, the
influence of environmental information on policy-making has increased
significantly, affecting our conservation efforts towards a sustainable
use of biological diversity. Colombia is considered a mega diverse
country due to its wealth in flora and fauna, which on many occasions is
a foundation of the economy of local communities. The botanical gardens
of the country, made comprehensive by the Botanical Gardens National
Network, posses a great amount of information on the distribution and
uses of flora. Due to this, the present project’s primary target is to
promote the digitalization of approximately 1450 cards of useful plants
species within 11 botanical gardens of the country. This will follow the
Plinian Core standard, which contains the minimum fields required to
exchange information at a species level. A metadata of the data set will
also be elaborated, using the Dublin Core standard. Finally, a thesaurus
of scientific and common names of useful plants species represented at
the botanic gardens collections will also be completed. The products
that are generated by this project will be accessible and interoperable
through the IABIN and SIB-Colombia web portals. |
