Thematic Network: Species 1. Summary: The use of dung beetles in studies of biodiversity has notably grown in the recent years. Ecological and diversity projects using dung beetles have been developed in different Neotropical countries. Dung beetles have become a focal group for rapid evaluations of the conservation status of tropical ecosystems. In Colombia the Inventories Diversity program of IAVH had intensively sampled dung beetles in different geographic areas. The Andes project included 19 localities on the Andes Cordillera; as a result of those expeditions, the program have many different set of ecological and distributional data on dung beetles, as same as relevant taxonomic knowledge on the group. This information is valuable and if it is available through the National Biodiversity Information System it would ease ecological analysis and important regional comparisons. With this proposal we will create 250 species fac-sheets including biology, ecological and distributional information on Colombian Andean dung beetles, which will be available on the nodes of SIB and IABIN 2. Period: September 1, 2009 to June 30th, 2010 3. Amount: US Dollars 10,000 4. Status: In Progress
