1. Summary |
The
project aims at making available specimens collected by two of the
most important botanists of Argentina during the XX century, A.
Burkart and A.L. Cabrera. Both collections are important due to
their size as well as to the locations visited during more than 50
years of field trips. Also, these collections were utilized for a
phytogeographic scheme of Argentina, developed by Cabrera. They were
also source for published books on the Flora of the country, as well
as revisions and monographs of different groups of vascular plants.
SI houses more than 30.000 specimens collected by Burkart, including
types and general collections all over the country, mainly of
Fabaceae and other families. There are also at SI many collections
made by Cabrera, approximately 20.000. In addition to the specimens,
field books, of both botanists, are kept at the Institute; these
field books will allow the inclusion of meta information about each
field trip, itineraries and georeferentiation of these classical
collections. The proposed work will make available all information
to researchers and general public |
