1.      Summary

Since 2002, the Museum of Natural Sciences “Rvdo. P. Antonio Scasso" and the Óga Foundation have been working on the development of a database, unique in the country, with information on the geographic distribution of freshwater fish species of Argentina.

We deem high-priority to advance in the following lines of activities, for which collaboration with IABIN is being seeked.

a) Permanent update, for the inclusion of recently described new species and new publications containing data on distribution of fish (2000 new registries by the end of the project).

b) Quality control of registries and inclusion of georeference parameters, for a total of 10000 registries.

c) Compliance of the project’s metadata with standards and protocols of IABIN, and training of personnel for the previous tasks.

d) Public access of the information via Internet, through websites of SSTN and foundation Óga.

The emergent information of the project is very valuable for the development of strategies and activities of conservation for the group of the fish and -in general- for the aquatic ecosystems of the country. Allow analysis of the geographic distribution of sampling coverage and diagnose of sampling gaps.
