1. Summary |
The Lillo’s collection
houses almost 3.500.000 specimens of Insects and Plants. Only about
100.000 specimens are digitalized. A large part of these specimens were
collected in Northwestern Argentina. This section of the country
contains very diverse ecoregions, such as Puna, Prepuna, Altoandina,
Yungas, Chaco and Monte. It is estimated that about 20% of the specimens
have been studied and described in the last 50 years by local, national
and foreign specialist. This collection constitutes, without dispute,
the major reference for the biodiversity of this region, but the
information contained in this collection is difficult to access. We have
digitalized 100000 specimens, 50000 with a IABIN project in 2007. FML
consider that incorpored data base of species is a good complement to
this other project. |
