The Department of Sustainable
Development is being prominently featured at the 5th World Water
Forum being held in Istanbul, Turkey. The Department is being
represented by its Director, Cletus I. Springer and Chief of its
Integrated Water Resources Management Program Jorge Rucks.
On Tuesday March 17th, both officials
participated in the Americas Region Session - Mr. Rucks as
Rapporteur of the Opening session and Mr. Springer as Chair of the
second session at which case studies from the 5 regions of the
Americas were presented. The Guarani Aquifer Project being executed
by DSD was featured in the session.
On wednesday March 18th Mr Rucks
participated in a side event organized by UNESCO at which a side
publication authored by Enrique Bello, Jorge Rucks and Cletus
Springer was presented. The publication forms part of the Third
World Water Report WWD-3 which was launched at the Forum.
On Friday March 20, Jorge Rucks will
present the OAS' experiences in managing transboundary water
projects, while Mr Springer will participate in a panel discussion
organized by the Water Centre for Latin America and the Caribbean.
The World Water forum is the premiere
global event dealing with water-related issues. Over 2000
participants from over 150 countries are attending the event.
A variety of events throughout the week aim to focus on just one
overarching theme: “Bridging Divides for Water”.
