Integrated Water Resource Management

In 2006, the Department made headway on the integrated management of watersheds spanning more than one country and in coastal areas.  Serving as a regional collaborator, the DSD supported the design of national and regional policies that promote sustainable management of water resources.  These policies emphasized issues including good governance, public participation, adaptation to climate change and institutional strengthening.  In 2006, the Department was actively involved in the preparations for, and hosting of the Fourth World Water Forum, held in Mexico City in March 2006 which was attended by water sector managers from the Caribbean. Further, DSD collaborated with the Government of Jamaica in putting together the 5th Inter-American Dialogue on Water Management, held the last quarter of 2005.  DSD acts as co-chair of the Inter-American Water Resources Network, whose main activities include these dialogues.
