Sustainable Land Management Since September 2005, the Department has been serving as Joint Executing Agency (along with the Caribbean Environmental Health Institute) for a GEF Project Development Facility (PDF-B) project entitled: Preventing Land Degradation through Sustainable Land Management in seven Participating Countries[1]. This preparatory project is supporting the design of a Full Size Project (FSP) which will address the problems of land degradation, in particular deforestation and loss of ecosystem goods and services, and endemic species. It will promote the adoption of sustainable land management practices, institutional arrangements, policies and incentives, aimed at the mitigation of land degradation and the enhancement of the functioning of fragile and unique ecosystems of small islands in the Caribbean. The project will contribute to the harmonization of sustainable land management priorities identified in the National Action Programmes (NAPs) to combat desertification as well as in the National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans of the Participating Countries
