20 June - The Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Ambassador Albert Ramdin, issued Saturday a call to graduates at the University of Belize’ Ninth Commencement Exercise on Saturday in Belmopan. 12 June - The OAS Assistant Secretary General, Ambassador Albert Ramdin, will showcase the regional perspective of the Americas on disaster reduction in a meeting to be held in Geneva, June 15 - 19, 2009. At the meeting, high-level government authorities, international experts and officials from UN System specialized agencies, international cooperation agencies, bilateral and multilateral donors, along with inter-governmental organizations from the Inter-American System will discuss ways to further advance the agenda of Disaster Risk Reduction and Development. This 2nd Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction is being organized by the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR). (more)

12 June - Speaking at an event organized by the George Washington University’s Center for Latin American Issues on “The future of Inter-American Relations”, Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Albert R. Ramdin, observed that “the future of Inter-American relations is now upon us.” The recent historic General Assembly in San Pedro Sula, Honduras and the Fifth Summit of the Americas in Trinidad & Tobago together marked a turning point in inter-American relations and ushered in a new and constructive environment which promises to reshape multilateralism in the Western Hemisphere. 27 May - The Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Ambassador Albert Ramdin, met with U.S. Representatives Donald Payne (D-NJ) and Yvette Clarke (D-NY) in individual meetings to continue conversations initially held at the recent Fifth Summit of the Americas in Trinidad and Tobago and discuss the upcoming 2009 OAS General Assembly to be held in San Pedro Sula, Honduras in early June. 21 May - Georgetown, Guyana: During a two-day working visit to Guyana, OAS Assistant Secretary General, Ambassador Albert Ramdin held talks with Guyana’s President, the honorable Bharrat Jagdeo. Ambassador Ramdin briefed the President on OAS plans for follow-up to the V Summit of the Americas and the upcoming 39th General Assembly. President Jagdeo discussed plans for his chairmanship of the CARICOM Community Heads of Government during the period July to December 2009 and invited the Assistant Secretary general to work with him in the coming months to explore how Guyana and the OAS could improve collaboration and ensure current OAS mechanisms and programs are optimized to meet the urgent development needs of the people of Guyana. 7 May - Speaking in Washington at a high-level conference on Haiti organized by the United States Institute of Peace, OAS Assistant Secretary General Albert Ramdin advocated for a more positive characterization of Haiti, and called for a shift in the way people see this country. “The negative and often incorrect stereotype of Haiti is something that needs to be changed. Despite many challenges, I look at Haiti as a country with opportunities, as a country with a future, where things are possible, and where good relations can be established within society.” (more)
