Ramdin, the OAS Assistant Secretary General, urged authorities from Haiti and the Dominican Republic to work more closely together to harmonize policies for cross-border human and trade movement. He announced that the OAS would provide support to that initiative, through the Pan American Development Foundation (PADF) with funding from United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

15 August - The OAS will deploy a team of international observers to monitor the August 27 general elections in Jamaica, at the request of that nation’s government and its Election Commission. OAS Secretary General José Miguel Insulza has named the hemispheric organization’s second highest official, Ambassador Albert R. Ramdin, as Chief of the Electoral Observation Mission. Steven Griner, who has gained extensive experience in mounting observation missions in the Caribbean, will be the Deputy Chief of the Electoral Observation Mission.
