The Office of the Director General of the Inter-American
Children’s Institute (which ranks as a department)
A. Structure
1. The Office of the Director General of the Inter-American
Children's Institute (IIN) and its staff are under the
overall direction, supervision, and control of the director
general, who reports to the secretary for legal affairs, in
accordance with the legal system of the Organization and
with the provisions of this Executive Order.
B. Functions
1. Performs the functions assigned to the Office of the
Director General of the IIN in the Statutes and Rules of
Procedure of the IIN, and by the Directing Council of the
IIN and the other competent bodies, in accordance with the
resources assigned.
2. Represents the Secretary General. the Assistant Secretary
General, and the secretary for legal affairs before the
political bodies of the OAS, on missions, at international
meetings, and at other events dealing with matters in its
area of competence; prepares special reports; and performs
the other tasks they assign to it.
3. Facilitates the activities of the General Secretariat in
the area of the human rights of children, preventing the
duplication of efforts and expenses, improving the use of
available resources, and coordinating its activities with
those of the Executive Secretariat of the Inter-American
Commission on Human Rights and with the human rights
activities of the Permanent Secretariat of the
Inter-American Commission of Women and other dependencies of
the General Secretariat.
