Department of International Law

1. Activities Assigned

The Program assigns the Department of International Law of the Secretariat for Legal Affairs (SLA) the task of compiling and disseminating on its website current national migration legislation, policies, and requirements.

2. Activities Carried Out

Every year, the Department of International Law helps the Committee on Juridical and Political Affairs organize a special meeting on the Inter-American Program and to prepare a report on it.

As promised in its presentation at the first special meeting, held on March 16, 2006, the Office designed an Internet page on the Inter-American Program, which has been available to the public since September, 2006.

The Office also incorporated into this web page, a section on migration laws of member states, which now contains update information on legislation in all the countries of Latin America.

The Department of International Law has added to the Course on International Law 2006 the topic of migrant workers, and it plans to continue including the topic in the future. Likewise, the Office will incorporate in a permanent fashion this topic in the Workshops on International Law that are organized annually, starting on 2007.
