Working Group

In 1999, the Organization of American States (OAS) established a [Working Group to Prepare the Proposed American Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples] (“the Working Group”), attached to the Committee on Juridical and Political Affairs.

Successive [resolutions] have renewed the Group’s mandate and called for the Declaration to be adopted by the relevant body.

All member states may participate on the Working Group as voting members [1].  Its sessions, which are open to the public, begin in August and end in April of the following year, and are held at OAS headquarters in Washington, D.C.
