Activities undertaken

Subregional Workshop for the Andean Region on “Participation and Incidence of Afro-descendants in the OAS”

The Department of International Law helped organize and participated in the Subregional Workshop for the Andean Region on “Participation and Incidence of Afro-descendants in the OAS” The event took place at the Hotel Señorial in Lima, Peru, on March 23 and 24, 2010, and was co-organized by Global Rights Partners for Justice and the Centro de Desarrollo de la Mujer Negra Peruana [Center for Advancement of Black Women in Peru]. The purpose of the workshop was to inform representatives of Afro-descendants in the Andean region about the work of the OAS, ahead of the General Assembly to be held in Lima in June 2010. The DIL made it possible for several representatives of Afro-descendant organizations to be present at the forum. At the event, Dr. Dante Negro, Director of the Department of International Law, offered a presentation entitled “Universal and Regional Standards of Protection for People of African Descent”.
