Activities undertaken

Fortieth General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), Lima, Peru, 2010

Forty Under the Regular Session of the OAS General Assembly held from 6 to 8 June 2010, in Lima, Peru, held a forum entitled "Participation and Impact of Afro-descendant and in the Organization of American States, "which was aimed at representatives of African descent in Latin America and the Caribbean. In that forum, the International Law Department made a presentation of the Draft Resolution: Recognition of the International Year of African descent, this in order to diffuse among the representatives of African descent and some tools to make recommendations and participate more actively in the OAS activities.

As part of this event, and representatives of Afro-descendant organizations produced a Final Declaration in which they are pleased with the draft resolution on the International Year of African descendants, which, among others, includes the treatment of the theme of African descent specifically on the agenda of the Permanent Council before XLV regular session of the General Assembly. It should be noted that the draft resolution was finally approved by the Member States of the organization in the General Assembly XL.
