Activities undertaken

Participation of the DIL in the Durban Review Conference, Geneva, 2009

From April 20 to 24, 2009, the DIL was part of the OAS delegation appointed by the Secretary General to attend the Durban Review Conference held at the United Nations Headquarters at Geneva, which offered an opportunity to follow the proceedings and outcome of the Conference, which consisted of a document that contained a variety of different recommendations. The DIL representative also had occasion to take part in several parallel events that were held during the Conference that dealt with issues concerning people of African descent in the region. The OAS delegation also included the IACHR Rapporteur on the Rights of Afro-Descendants and against Racial Discrimination, as well as an official from the Executive Secretariat of the IACHR.
