Department of Social Development and LaborThe Department of Social Development and Employment (DSDE) is part of the Executive Secretariat for Integral Development of the Organization of American States. Its main purpose consists in supporting efforts of Member States to advance on development with equity, through the promotion of policies and programs of poverty reduction, decent work and employment creation. The DSDE fulfills its strategic objectives through activities integrated in the following areas: i) promotion of inter-American dialogue on social development, labor and employment; through the support of specialized political fora; ii) promotion of partnership for development, especially horizontal cooperation activities based on the exchange of knowledge and experiences in planning and implementation of public policies; iii) coordination of actions with other international organizations, scholars, private sector and civil society. The DSDE was formally created on December 15 of 2005, through Executive Order No. 05-13 of the General Secretariat of the OAS, taking under its responsibility the activities in the areas of social development, labor and employment that the OAS has been developing since its creation in 1948.
