Preparation of the High-level meeting
The General
Assembly resolution AG/RES. 1802 (XXXI-O/01) adopted at its third plenary
session decided to convene the Second High-Level Meeting on the Special
Security Concerns of Small Island States.
It is expected that
at this meeting countries
adopt a management model through which the security of small states can be
appropriately and adequately addressed, as well as to formulate a
definition of security for small island states to be forwarded to the 2004
Special Conference on Security for consideration.
This meeting
will be held in Barbados, immediately prior to the thirty-second regular
session of the General Assembly, scheduled to be in June 2002.
For
the purpose of organizing this meeting, a Working Group, chaired by the
Permanent Representative of Barbados to the OAS, was created.
