CONVOCATION OF THE TWENTY-SEVENTH SPECIAL SESSION
OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY
THE PERMANENT COUNCIL OF THE ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES,
HAVING SEEN resolutions AG/RES. 1754 (XXX-O/00), "Program-Budget of the Organization for 2001," AG/RES. 1746 "Scale of Quota Assessment for the Regular Fund," and AG/RES. 1757 (XXX-O/00), "Measures to Encourage the Timely Payment of Quotas;"
RECALLING that, under Articles 54 and 55 of the OAS Charter, the General Assembly is responsible, inter alia, for approving the Organization's program-budget and for "fixing the quota that each Government is to contribute to the maintenance of the Organization;"
NOTING that the Secretary General presented the reformulated proposed program-budget for 2001 (AG/CP/doc.620/00) to the Preparatory Committee on August 16, 2000, pursuant to resolution AG/RES. 1754 (XXX-O/00); and
CONSIDERING:
That, in the aforementioned resolution, AG/RES. 1754 (XXX-O/00), the General Assembly instructed the Permanent Council to convene, no later than October 15, 2000, a special session of the General Assembly; and
That, in resolution AG/RES. 1757 (XXX-O/00), the General Assembly requested the Permanent Council to present a report to that special session on the "Measures to Encourage the Timely Payment of Quotas,"
RESOLVES:
1. To convene the twenty-seventh special session of the General Assembly to consider and approve the program-budget of the Organization for 2001, quotas for 2001, the report on the "measures to encourage the timely payment of quotas", and other matters related to the program-budget and the bases for financing the Organization.
2. To set October 12, 2000, as the date for the twenty-seventh special session of the General Assembly, to be held at the headquarters of the Organization.
