CHANGE OF DATE AND SITE OF THE THIRD MEETING OF OFFICIALS
RESPONSIBLE FOR PENITENTIARY AND PRISON POLICIES

(Adopted at its session held on 1 February, 2012)

THE PERMANENT COUNCIL OF THE ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES,

RECALLING its resolution CP/RES. 998 (1833/11) “Convocation of the Third Meeting of Officials Responsible for Penitentiary and Prison Policies, pursuant to resolution AG/RES. 2657 (XLI-O/11) and the Conclusions and Recommendations of the Eighth Meeting of Ministers of Justice or Other Ministers or Attorneys General of the Americas (REMJA-VIII)”, which was adopted at its session held on December 14, 2011;

TAKING NOTE of the communication by the Government of Canada, which indicated that for reasons beyond its control said meeting would not take place in Kingston, Canada on February 20-22, 2012 as anticipated;

CONSCIOUS of the need to ensure that sufficient time and resources exist for the reprogramming of activities in this regard;

RESOLVES:

1. To convene the Third Meeting of Officials Responsible for Penitentiary and Prison Policies to take place at the Headquarters of the Organization of American States, on July 18-19, 2012.

2. To request the General Secretariat to render the technical and administrative support necessary to prepare for said meeting and to make appropriate arrangements for it to be held, subject to the availability of resources allocated in the program-budget of the Organization and other resources for 2012.
