GRANTING TO THE FORMER YUGOSLAV REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA
THE STATUS OF PERMANENT OBSERVER TO THE
ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES
(Approved at the meeting held on May 18, 2011)
THE PERMANENT COUNCIL OF THE ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES,
HAVING SEEN the request by the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia to
be granted the status of permanent observer to the Organization of
American States (CP/doc.4528/11) and the corresponding report of the
Chair of the Committee on Juridical and Political Affairs
(CP/CAJP-2984/11);
CONSIDERING:
That in resolution AG/RES. 50 (I-O/71) on “Permanent Observers to the
Organization of American States,” the General Assembly established the
status of permanent observer to the Organization of American States and
entrusted the Permanent Council with the task of determining the
criteria and timing for giving effect to and implementing that
provision; and
That, in keeping with resolution CP/RES. 407 (573/84), “Revised
Procedures for Granting Permanent Observer Status,” any independent
state may request the status of permanent observer to the Organization
of American States,
RESOLVES:
1. To grant the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia the status of
permanent observer to the Organization of American States, in accordance
with the provisions of resolutions AG/RES. 50 (I-O/71) of the General
Assembly and CP/RES. 407 (573/84) of this Council.
2. To invite the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia to accredit a
permanent observer to the organs, agencies, and entities of the
Organization, pursuant to operative paragraph 7 of resolution CP/RES.
407 (573/84).
3. To request the Secretary General to notify the Government of the
Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and, subsequently, the organs,
agencies, and entities of the Organization, including the inter-American
specialized organizations, of the adoption of this resolution.
