DATE OF THE EIGHTH MEETING OF MINISTERS OF JUSTICE OR OTHER MINISTERS OR ATTORNEYS GENERAL OF THE AMERICAS (REMJA-VIII)

 THE PERMANENT COUNCIL OF THE ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES,

CONSIDERING:

That in the Conclusions and Recommendations of the Seventh Meeting of Ministers of Justice or Other Ministers or Attorneys General of the Americas (REMJA-VII/doc.7/08 rev. 1), as well as in resolution AG/RES. 2369 (XXXVIII-O/08), it was resolved to accept with appreciation the offer of Brazil to host REMJA-VIII, to be held in 2010; 

That, in resolution AG/RES. 2462 (XXXIX-O/09), the General Assembly convened the Eighth Meeting of Ministers of Justice or Other Ministers or Attorneys General of the Americas (REMJA-VIII), to be held in Brazil in 2010, within the resources allocated in the program-budget of the Organization and other resources; 

That the aforementioned resolution instructed the Permanent Council to set a date for the meeting and to proceed with preparations for it, with technical support from the Department of Legal Cooperation of the Secretariat for Legal Affairs of the General Secretariat; and 

That, in paragraph 5, the “Document of Washington provides that the General Assembly or, failing that, the Permanent Council of the OAS shall adopt a resolution formally convening each REMJA,

RESOLVES:

            1.         To establish that Eighth Meeting of Ministers of Justice or Other Ministers or Attorneys General of the Americas (REMJA-VIII) will be held from February 24 to 26, 2010, in the city of Brasilia, Brazil.

            2.         To request the Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Affairs to allocate the necessary funds to finance REMJA-VIII and its preparatory meetings.
