CONVOCATION OF THE
THIRTY-SIXTH SPECIAL SESSION OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY
(Approved by the Permanent Council at its meeting of September 24, 2008)
THE PERMANENT COUNCIL OF THE ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES,
BEARING IN MIND that, in accordance with Article 54 and 55 of the
Charter of the Organization of American States (OAS), it is incumbent
upon the General Assembly to approve the program-budget of the
Organization and to establish the bases for fixing the quota that each
government is to contribute to the maintenance of the Organization;
BEARING IN MIND ALSO that the OAS General Assembly, in its resolution
AG/RES. 1 (XXXIV-E/07), established the methodology for calculating the
scale of quota assessments to finance the Regular Fund of the
Organization that will be applied to quota percentage assessments
assigned to the member states as of 2009;
CONSIDERING that the General Assembly, in resolution AG/RES. 2437
(XXXVIII-O/08) instructed “the Permanent Council, through the Committee
on Administrative and Budgetary Affairs, to continue consideration of
the proposed program-budget of the Organization of American States (OAS)
for fiscal year 2009” and “to convene a special session of the General
Assembly to be held prior to September 30, 2008, to approve the 2009
program-budget of the Organization, including its overall budget level,
appropriations by chapter and subprogram, sources of financing, and to
establish the overall budget level for 2010”;
RESOLVES:
To convene the thirty-sixth special session of the General Assembly,
pursuant to the provisions of resolution AG/RES. 2437 (XXXVIII-O/08), to
be held on September 30, 2008, at the headquarters of the Organization.
