PLACE AND DATE OF THE
SEVENTH MEETING OF NEGOTIATIONS IN THE QUEST FOR POINTS
OF CONSENSUS OF THE WORKING GROUP TO PREPARE THE DRAFT AMERICAN
DECLARATION
ON THE RIGHTS OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLES

session held on February 10, 2006)
THE PERMANENT COUNCIL OF THE ORGANIZATION
OF AMERICAN STATES,
BEARING IN MIND the offer of the
Government of Brazil, forwarded by its Permanent Mission to the OAS and
distributed as document CP/INF.5288/06, to host the Seventh Meeting of
Negotiations in the Quest for Points of Consensus in Brasilia; and
CONSIDERING that, in resolution AG/RES.
2073 (XXXV-O/05), “American Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous
Peoples,” the OAS General Assembly asked the Permanent Council to “give
increased emphasis to the holding of negotiation meetings with a view to
the prompt adoption of the American Declaration on the Rights of
Indigenous Peoples,”
RESOLVES:
1. To accept with gratitude the offer by
the Government of Brazil to host the Seventh Meeting of Negotiations in
the Quest for Points of Consensus of the Working Group to Prepare the
Draft American Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in the
city of Brasilia.
2. To convene the Seventh Meeting of
Negotiations in the Quest for Points of Consensus, to be held in
Brasilia, Brazil, from March 21 to 25, 2006.
3. To request the General Secretariat to
continue lending its support in the preparations for the aforementioned
Meeting of Negotiations.
