CONVOCATION OF THE MEETING
OF NATIONAL AUTHORITIES ON TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS
(Adopted at its
session held on August 25, 2005 and amended
at its meetings of November 30, 2005 and January 24, 2006)
THE PERMANENT COUNCIL OF THE ORGANIZATION
OF AMERICAN STATES,
CONSIDERING that the General Assembly of
the Organization, in its resolutions AG/RES. 2019 (XXXIV-O/04),
“Fighting the Crime of Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women,
Adolescents, and Children”; AG/RES. 2026 (XXXIV-O/04), “Fighting
Transnational Organized Crime in the Hemisphere”; and AG/RES. 2040
(XXXIV-O/04), “Meeting of Ministers of Justice or of Ministers or
Attorneys General of the Americas,” decided to instruct the Permanent
Council to convene a Meeting of National Authorities on Trafficking in
Persons;
RECOGNIZING that the member states
decided that the meeting would study the topic in an integrated manner
and deal with the various mandates on the matter, taking into account
all the Organization’s efforts against transnational organized crime
and, in particular, against trafficking in persons, especially women and
children, in accordance with the aforementioned resolutions;
NOTING that resolution AG/RES. 2118
(XXXV-O/05), “Fighting the Crime of Trafficking in Persons,” renews the
mandate to the Permanent Council to convene that meeting before the next
regular session of the General Assembly;
TAKING INTO ACCOUNT the offer by the
Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to host the Meeting
of National Authorities on Trafficking in Persons (GT/RTP-4/05 and
CP/INF.5225/05), and its subsequent request to change the date thereof
(CP/INF.5269/05); and
RECALLING that said Meeting had been
convened at the Permanent Council meeting of August 25, 2005,
RESOLVES:
1. To thank the Government of the
Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela for reiterating its offer to host the
Meeting of National Authorities on Trafficking in Persons.
2. To hold the Meeting of National
Authorities on Trafficking in Persons on Isla de Margarita, Venezuela,
from March 14 to 17, 2006.
