CONVOCATION OF THE
THIRTIETH SPECIAL SESSION OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY
TO ELECT THE SECRETARY GENERAL OF THE
ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES
(Adopted at its session
held on March 16, 2005)
THE PERMANENT COUNCIL OF THE ORGANIZATION
OF AMERICAN STATES,
RECOGNIZING the excellent work done by
the Assistant Secretary General of the Organization, Ambassador Luigi R.
Einaudi, in his capacity as Acting Secretary General since October 2004;
MINDFUL of the need to provide the
Organization, as soon as possible, with a Secretary General elected in
accordance with Article 108 of the OAS Charter, thus enabling the
Organization to pursue its agenda in the short, medium, and long terms;
RECALLING Permanent Council resolution
CP/RES. 874 (1459/04), “Promotion of Transparency in the Selection of
the Secretary General and the Assistant Secretary General”; and
ACTING under Article 58 of the OAS
Charter, which empowers the Permanent Council to convoke a special
session of the General Assembly of the Organization,
RESOLVES:
To convoke the thirtieth special session
of the General Assembly to elect the Secretary General of the
Organization, on April 7, 2005, at the Organization’s headquarters.
