SUPPORT FOR THE
CONSTITUTIONAL GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF PERU
THE PERMANENT COUNCIL
OF THE ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES,
HAVING HEARD the statement by the Permanent Representative of Peru to the
Organization of American States on the political situation in that country;
REAFFIRMING the norms and principles embodied in the Charter of the Organization
of American States and the Inter-American Democratic Charter;
HAVING TAKEN COGNIZANCE of the support jointly expressed by the subregional
mechanisms for political consultation in support of the democratic
institutional framework in Peru; and
TAKING INTO ACCOUNT declaration AG/DEC. 33 (XXXIII-O/03), “Support for Peru in
Its Fight against Corruption and Impunity,” adopted by the General Assembly of
the Organization at its thirty-third regular session,
RESOLVES:
1. To express its full and decisive support for the
constitutional Government of the President of Peru, Alejandro Toledo Manrique,
and in particular the initiative to achieve broad national consensus in order
to strengthen institutional democratic processes in Peru.
2. To reiterate that stable democratic processes in the
region are a shared objective of the hemispheric community, as is the fight
against poverty, social exclusion and corruption.
3. To urge the Government, political parties, and civil
society of Peru to support efforts to achieve points of national consensus that
will ensure democratic stability.
