CONVOCATION OF THE
MEETING OF GOVERNMENT EXPERTS TO EXCHANGE, FROM A HUMAN RIGHTS PERSPECTIVE,
BEST PRACTICES AND NATIONAL EXPERIENCES IN ADOPTING ANTITERRORISM MEASURES
THE PERMANENT COUNCIL
OF THE ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES,
CONSIDERING:
General Assembly resolution AG/RES. 1931 (XXXIII-O/03), “Protecting Human Rights
and Fundamental Freedoms While Countering Terrorism,” in which the Permanent
Council was instructed to “convene a meeting of government experts to exchange,
from a human rights perspective, best practices and national experiences in
adopting antiterrorism measures in keeping with the international commitments
of their states, and to transmit to the Inter-American Committee against
Terrorism a report on that meeting; and
The report of the Chair of the Committee on Juridical and Political Affairs as
it relates to preparations for that meeting (CP/CAJP-2119/04),
RESOLVES:
1. To convene the Meeting of Government Experts to
Exchange, from a Human Rights Perspective, Best Practices and National
Experiences in Adopting Antiterrorism Measures, to be held on February 12 and
13, 2004, at the headquarters of the Organization.
2. To approve the draft agenda and schedule attached
hereto as an appendix.
3. To arrange for this meeting to be held within the
resources allocated in the program-budget and other resources.
4. To request the member states to notify the General
Secretariat as soon as possible, by means of a note, of the names of the
government experts who will participate in the meeting.
