DATE OF THE FIFTH
MEETING OF MINISTERS OF JUSTICE OR OF MINISTERS
OR ATTORNEYS GENERAL OF THE AMERICAS (REMJA-V)
THE PERMANENT COUNCIL
OF THE ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES,
RECALLING that in the Plan of Action of the Third Summit of the Americas, the
Heads of State and Government decided to continue to support the work done in
the context of the Meetings of Ministers of Justice or of Ministers or
Attorneys General of the Americas (REMJA) and to implement or recommend the
implementation of their conclusions and recommendations; and
CONSIDERING:
That, as established by REMJA-IV and by resolutions AG/RES. 1849 (XXXII-O/02)
and CP/RES. 839 (1359/03), the three technical meetings referred to therein
have been held, namely that of Central Authorities and Other Experts in Mutual
Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters (Ottawa, Canada, from April 30 to May 2,
2003), that of the Group of Government Experts on Cyber-Crime (June 23 and 24,
2003), and that of Authorities Responsible for Penitentiary and Prison Policies
(on October 16 and 17, 2003), and that each of them made recommendations for
consideration at REMJA-V (documents PENAL/doc.1/03, GE/REMJA/doc.89/03, and
GAPECA/doc.4/03); and
That, through resolution AG/RES. 1924 (XXXIII-O/03), the General Assembly of the
Organization of American States (OAS) convened the Fifth Meeting of Ministers
of Justice or of Ministers or Attorneys General of the Americas (REMJA-V), to
be held in the first half of 2004 within the resources allocated in the
program-budget of the Organization and other resources, and instructed the
Permanent Council, with the technical support of the General Secretariat, to
carry out the preparatory work and set the date for that meeting,
RESOLVES:
1. To set April 28 to 30, 2004, as the dates for the
Fifth Meeting of Ministers of Justice or of Ministers or Attorneys General of
the Americas (REMJA-V), to be held at OAS headquarters in Washington, D.C.,
United States of America.
2. To direct that the resources provided in subprogram
10W of the 2004 program-budget be allocated to funding REMJA-V.
