NAMING OAS MEETING
ROOMS AFTER
RUBÉN DARÍO AND DR. JOSÉ GUSTAVO GUERRERO
(Adopted at the meeting of
April 9, 2003, and revised at the meeting of September 29, 2004)
THE PERMANENT COUNCIL OF THE ORGANIZATION
OF AMERICAN STATES,
CONSIDERING that the architecture of the
headquarters of the OAS reflects varied influences of its member states,
and that therefore its meeting rooms have been named after various
distinguished figures who have contributed to the advancement of
hemispheric causes;
UNDERSCORING the desire of the Central
American countries to be included among these representative symbols of
the history and heritage of the Americas;
RECALLING:
The life and career of the poet, man of
letters, diplomat, humanist and distinguished bard of Nicaragua, RUBÉN
DARÍO, the Father of Literary Modernism, Prince of Castilian Literature,
Latin America’s Man of the Millennium and illustrious Poet of America,
who extolled the Pan American Union and wrote hymns and odes of
greatness for all the heroes and peoples of America; and
The life, works, and memory of Dr. JOSÉ
GUSTAVO GUERRERO, eminent jurist and Salvadorian diplomat, President of
the Permanent Court of International Justice of the Hague and First
President of the International Court of Justice, and his contributions
to international law,
RESOLVES:
1. To name the room on the eighth floor
of the General Secretariat Building, 1889 F Street, N.W., after RUBÉN
DARÍO, in honor of the distinguished Central American poet.
2. To name the meeting room about to be
built on the second floor of the main building of the Organization after
Dr. JOSÉ GUSTAVO GUERRERO, in honor of the eminent jurist and Central
American diplomat.
