CP/RES. 820 (1328/02)
VENUE OF THE
THIRTY-THIRD AND THE THIRTY-FOURTH
REGULAR SESSIONS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY
THE PERMANENT COUNCIL OF THE ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES,
BEARING IN MIND that the General Assembly, through its resolutions AG/RES. 1687
(XXIX-O/99) and AG/RES. 1688 (XXIX-O/99), thanked the Governments of Ecuador
and Chile for their offers to host the thirty-third and thirty-fourth regular
sessions of the General Assembly, respectively, and accepted those offers;
HAVING SEEN the note presented by the Permanent Mission of Chile (CP/doc.3624/02
rev. 1), in which it reported that the Government of Chile had asked the
Government of Ecuador to exchange venues for the next regular session of the
OAS General Assembly since, in 2004, Chile would be hosting two important
international meetings, and that the Government of Ecuador had responded
favorably to that request, as confirmed by its delegate at the Permanent
Council meeting of July 11, 2002;
HAVING SEEN, further, the note (CP/doc.3624/02 rev. 1) from the Permanent
Mission of Ecuador, in which it provided background information on the exchange
that had been agreed upon and, on behalf of its Government, reiterated its
formal offer to host the thirty-fourth regular session of the General Assembly,
in June 2004; and
CONSIDERING that, under Article 57 of the Charter of the Organization of
American States, if the General Assembly cannot be held at the place chosen, it
is incumbent upon the Permanent Council to agree to a change of venue,
RESOLVES:
To accept the proposed exchange of venues and agree that the thirty-third and
thirty-fourth regular sessions of the General Assembly will be held in Chile
and in Ecuador, respectively.
