ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA FOR THE FOURTH MEETING OF
MINISTERS OF JUSTICE OR OF MINISTERS OR ATTORNEYS
GENERAL OF THE AMERICAS
THE PERMANENT COUNCIL OF THE ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES,
HAVING SEEN the Report of the Chair of the Committee on Juridical and Political
Affairs on the draft agenda for the Fourth Meeting of Ministers of Justice or
of Ministers or Attorneys General of the Americas (REMJA-IV) (CP/CAJP-1872/02)
RECALLING what was agreed by the heads of state and government of the countries
of the Americas, in the Plan of Action adopted at the Third Summit of the
Americas, in which they decided to "continue to support the work done in
the context of the Meetings of Ministers of Justice and Attorneys General of
the Americas, whose Fourth Meeting will take place in Trinidad and Tobago, as
well as subsequent meetings, and the implementation of their conclusions and
recommendations";
CONSIDERING:
That, in resolution AG/RES. 1781 (XXXI-O/01), the General Assembly convened
"the Fourth Meeting of Ministers of Justice or of Ministers or Attorneys
General of the Americas and instructed the Permanent Council to prepare the
agenda and the preliminary documents for the meeting and to set a date for
it"; and That the Permanent Council, in its resolution CP/RES. 802
(1299/01) set March 10-13, 2002 as the date for the Fourth Meeting of Ministers
of Justice or of Ministers or Attorneys General of the Americas,
RESOLVES:
1. To adopt the following agenda for the Fourth Meeting
of Ministers of Justice or of Ministers or Attorneys General of the Americas:
I
DIALOGUE OF HEADS OF DELEGATION
Topic: "Legal and judicial cooperation in fighting transnational organized
crime and terrorism"
II
1. Mutual legal assistance
1.1 Agreements on legal and judicial cooperation in the Americas: Applicability,
implementation, and improvement of cooperation instruments at the
inter-American level 1.2 Extradition 1.3 International cooperation for the
repatriation of illegal funds derived from corruption 1.4 Information exchange
network
2. Improving the administration of justice
2.1. Access to justice: Alternative means of conflict resolution and other
mechanisms 2.2. Penitentiary and prison policy
3. Cyber-crime
4. Report of the Justice Studies Center of the Americas
5. Recommendations
2. To transmit this Agenda to the Fourth Meeting of
Ministers of Justice or of Ministers or Attorneys.
