CONVOCATION OF THE TWENTY-EIGHTH SPECIAL
SESSION OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY
THE PERMANENT COUNCIL OF THE
ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES,
HAVING SEEN Article 58 of the Charter
of the Organization of American States, Article 47 of the Rules of Procedure of
the General Assembly, Article 43 of the Statutes of the Permanent Council, and
Article 70 of the Rules of Procedure of the Permanent Council;
BEARING IN MIND that resolution
AG/RES. 1838 (XXXI-O/01) reaffirmed the resolve of all the OAS member states to
adopt an Inter-American Democratic Charter for the purpose of promoting and
consolidating representative democracy as the system of government of all
American states; and
CONSIDERING that resolution AG/RES.
1838 (XXXI-O/01) instructed the Permanent Council to convene a special session
of the General Assembly to be held in Lima, Peru, no later than September 30,
2001,
RESOLVES:
To convene the twenty-eighth special
session of the General Assembly, to be held in Lima, Peru, on September 10,
2001, for the adoption of the Inter-American Democratic Charter, in keeping
with resolution AG/RES. 1838 (XXXI-O/01).
