stability, peace, and development of the region; and
That, according to the Charter, one

sectors of the political community and civil society, options and
recommendations for resolving, as expeditiously as possible, difficulties such
as those that have arisen from differing interpretations of the Electoral Law,
and for further strengthening democracy in that country";
TAKING NOTE of the reports to the
Council by the Secretary General and the Assistant Secretary General on their

which he made a presentation on the policy of the new government in the context
of a "search for a consensual solution of the crisis stemming from the
elections of May 21, 2000", including the establishment of a new electoral
calendar; and
RECOGNIZING the concern of the
international community, including the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the
European Union and the United Nations Secretary-General's Group of Friends for
Haiti, for the strengthening of democracy in Haiti,

and respect for human rights in Haiti.
3. To

than 2 May 2001, a report on his consultations, and, as appropriate, to propose
