DETERMINATION OF THE DATE FOR THE THIRD MEETING
OF MINISTERS OF JUSTICE OR OF MINISTERS OR
ATTORNEYS GENERAL OF THE AMERICAS

THE PERMANENT COUNCIL OF THE ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES,

HAVING SEEN the proposal of the Permanent Representative of Costa Rica that the Third Meeting of Ministers of Justice or of Ministers or Attorneys General of the Americas be scheduled for March 1 to 3, 2000;

FOLLOWING UP ON the decision by the heads of state and government of the countries of the Americas, in the Plan of Action adopted at the Second Summit of the Americas, in reference to the "Strengthening of Justice Systems and Judiciaries," to "support the convening of periodic meetings of Ministers of Justice and Attorneys General of the Hemisphere within the framework of the Organization of American States (OAS)";

BEARING IN MIND that, in the light of the conclusions reached at the Second Meeting of Ministers of Justice or of Ministers or Attorneys General of the Americas, held in Lima, Peru, in March 1999, the Government of Costa Rica was thanked for its offer to host the Third Meeting of Ministers of Justice or of Ministers or Attorneys General of the Americas and that offer was accepted; and

CONSIDERING that, in resolution AG/RES. 1615 (XXIX-O/98), the General Assembly convened the Third Meeting of Ministers of Justice or of Ministers or Attorneys General of the Americas and instructed the Permanent Council to prepare the preliminary documents, set the date, and draw up the agenda for the meeting,

RESOLVES:

1. To schedule the Third Meeting of Ministers of Justice or of Ministers or Attorneys General of the Americas, which is to be held in Costa Rica, for March 1 to 3, 2000.

2. To request the General Secretariat to appropriate for the Third Meeting of Ministers of Justice or of Ministers or Attorneys General of the Americas the resources approved at the twenty-ninth regular session of the General Assembly in resolution AG/RES. 1697 (XXIX-O/99), "Program-Budget of the Organization for 2000; Quotas and Contributions to the Voluntary Fund for 2000."
