INFORMATION SYSTEMS MODERNIZATION PLAN FUNDING FOR 1999

THE PERMANENT COUNCIL OF THE ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES,

HAVING SEEN:

resolution AG/RES. 1230 (XXIII-0/93), "Program-Budget of the Organization for the 1994-1995 Biennium, 1994 Quotas and Pledges to the Voluntary Funds";

resolution AG/RES. 1381 (XXVI-O/96) "Program-Budget of the Organization for the Second Year of the 1996-97 Biennium, 1997 Quotas and Pledges to the Voluntary Fund;

resolution CP/RES. 607 (962/93), "Funding of Specific Non-Recurring Costs";

resolution CP/RES. 632 (993/94), "Elaboration of a Global Informatics Program for the Organization";

The plan for modernization of the information systems of the Organization of American States presented by the General Secretariat on October 31, 1996, in compliance with resolution AG/RES. 1381 (XXVI-O/96);

The Report of the Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Affairs on Evaluation of the Plan to Modernize the Information Systems of the Organization of American States (CP/doc.2856/97);

resolution CP/RES. 698 (1106/97), "Modernization Plan for OAS Information Systems";

The Progress reports MAN/AS/129-97 dated May 16, 1997, The Status Reports on the Implementation of the Systems Modernization Plan (CP/doc.3141/99), dated February 10, 1999, and (CP/doc.3005/98) dated February 20, 1998, and document CP/doc.3160/99, "Note from the Secretary General referring to the information systems modernization plan funding for 1999", dated February 25, 1999; and

The comments made by the Board of External Auditors regarding the need to ensure continued funding of the modernization effort (CP/CAAP.2372/98);

CONSIDERING:

The urgent need to modernize the Information Systems of the Organization and the need to continue the implementation of the Information Systems Modernization Plan and the migration of the administrative systems without interruption, as approved by this Permanent Council according to the detailed Plan and reports presented by the General Secretariat,

RESOLVES:

1. To maintain the authorization for the use of $2,605,000 programmed for 1999 for the on-going implementation of the Information Systems Modernization Plan from the re-appropriated funds approved in resolution AG/RES. 1230 (XXIII-O/93), and AG/RES. 1381 (XXVI-O/96).

2. To instruct the General Secretariat to continue to submit progress reports on the execution of the Information Systems Modernization Plan to the Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Affairs.
