AGENDA FOR THE MEETING OF GOVERNMENT EXPERTS TO
ANALYZE THE "PROPOSED AMERICAN DECLARATION ON
THE RIGHTS OF INDIGENOUS POPULATIONS"
THE PERMANENT COUNCIL OF THE ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES,
HAVING HEARD the report of the Chair of the Committee on
Juridical and Political Affairs on the Meeting of Government Experts to Analyze
the "Proposed American Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous
Populations";
CONSIDERING:
That, at its twenty-eighth regular session, the General
Assembly adopted resolution AG/RES. 1549 (XXVIII-O/98), "Proposed American
Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Populations," which instructed the
Permanent Council to continue to consider the "Proposed American
Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Populations," and, taking into
account the observations of the member states and the opinions of the
Inter-American Indian Institute and the Inter-American Juridical Committee, to
convene a meeting of government experts on this subject; and
That, in compliance with the resolution of the General
Assembly referred to in the preceding paragraph, the Permanent Council adopted
resolution CP/RES. 738 (1178/98), convening a Meeting of Government Experts to
Analyze the "Proposed American Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous
Populations," to be held on February 10-12, 1999,
RESOLVES:
To approve the following draft agenda for the Meeting of
Government Experts to Analyze the "Proposed American Declaration on the
Rights of Indigenous Populations:"

Analysis of the "Proposed American Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous
Populations", in compliance with the General Assembly mandate contained in
resolution AG/RES. 1549 (XXVIII-O/98).
