POSTPONEMENT OF THE SECOND CONFERENCE OF STATES PARTIES TO
INTER-AMERICAN CONVENTION ON TRANSPARENCY
IN CONVENTIONAL WEAPONS ACQUISITIONS (CITAAC)
(Adopted by the Permanent Council at the
meeting held on January 28, 2015)
THE PERMANENT COUNCIL OF THE ORGANIZATION OF
AMERICAN STATES,
TAKING INTO ACCOUNT resolution AG/RES. 2866 (XLIV-O/14) “Advancing
Hemispheric Security: A Multidimensional Approach,” adopted on June 5,
2014, operative paragraph 93 of which convenes the Second Conference of
States Parties to the Inter-American Convention on Transparency in
Conventional Weapons Acquisitions (CITAAC) for January 29, 2015 at the
headquarters of the OAS General Secretariat;
TAKING INTO ACCOUNT ALSO that the aforementioned operative paragraph 93
calls for said Conference to be held "in accordance with Article VIII of
the CITAAC and AG/RES. 2809 (XLIII-O/13)," and further requests "that
the General Secretariat budget for the above conference and its two
one-day preparatory meetings and that it support preparations for and
follow-up on said conference;"
MINDFUL of the need to ensure that there is sufficient time for the
states parties to the CITAAC as well as the General Secretariat to
properly prepare to make this Conference an event that lives up to the
expectations of the stakeholders; and
Recalling the need for States Parties to honor their commitment to
submitting their annual reports and notifications in keeping with their
obligations under Articles III and IV of the CITAAC, and the importance
of identifying national points of contact to assist in the preparation
of those annual reports and notifications,
RESOLVES:
To postpone the Second Conference of States Party to the Inter-American
Convention on Transparency in Conventional Weapons Acquisitions (CITAAC)
until the second half of 2015.
