CONVOCATION OF A SPECIAL SESSION OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO ELECT THE
SECRETARY GENERAL
OF THE ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES
(Adopted by the Permanent Council at its
meeting held on December 3, 2014)
THE PERMANENT COUNCIL OF THE ORGANIZATION OF
AMERICAN STATES,
TAKING INTO ACCOUNT that the current Secretary General’s term in office
expires on May 26, 2015;
RECALLING the right of member states to present candidates for the
position of Secretary General up to the very day elections are held
during the General Assembly;
RECALLING ALSO General Assembly resolution AG/RES. 2103 (XXXV-O/05),
“Public Presentation of the Candidates Proposed for the Positions of
Secretary General and Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of
American States” and Permanent Council resolution CP/RES. 874 (1459/04)
“Promotion of Transparency in the Selection of the Secretary General and
the Assistant Secretary General”;
MINDFUL OF the decisions adopted by this Council at the special session
held on November 19, 2014; and
ACTING under Article 108 of the OAS Charter, which states that the
Secretary General of the Organization of American States shall be
elected by the General Assembly; and
ACTING ALSO under Article 58 of the OAS Charter, which empowers the
Permanent Council to convoke a special session of the General Assembly
of the Organization,
RESOLVES:
To convene a special session of the General Assembly for March 18, 2015,
at the headquarters of the Organization, to elect the Secretary General.
