CONVOCATION OF THE MEETING OF THE WORKING GROUP ON PROTECTION OF THE
HUMAN RIGHTS OF OLDER PERSONS, TO BE HELD IN SAN SALVADOR, EL SALVADOR

(Adopted at its session held on February 13, 2013)

THE PERMANENT COUNCIL OF THE ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES,

CONSIDERING:

That the Working Group on Protection of the Human Rights of Older Persons was established in September 2011 as an organ of the Committee on Juridical and Political Affairs; and

That in June 2012, the General Assembly requested this Council to extend the mandate of the Working Group on Protection of the Human Rights of Older Persons, so that the latter can formally negotiate the Draft Inter-American Convention on the Human Rights of Older Persons and seek to “present it to the OAS General Assembly for adoption at its forty-third regular session”;

TAKING INTO ACCOUNT that Article 13 of the Statutes of the Permanent Council states that “The Permanent Council may also hold meetings in any member state, when it finds it advisable and with the prior consent of the government concerned”;

TAKING NOTE of the offer made by the Government of El Salvador to host a meeting of the Working Group on Protection of the Human Rights of Older Persons, to be held in San Salvador, El Salvador,

RESOLVES:

1. To convene the meeting of the Working Group on Protection of the Human Rights of Older Persons to be held in San Salvador, El Salvador, from February 27 to March 1, 2013.

2. That financing for this meeting will be covered with funds generously offered by the Government of El Salvador and will in no wise affect the Regular Fund or any other fund allocated for meetings of the Permanent Council.

3. To thank the Government of El Salvador for hosting a meeting of the Working Group on Protection of the Human Rights of Older Persons, and for the financing provided for holding this event.
