CHANGE OF DATE OF THE THIRD MEETING OF NATIONAL AUTHORITIES
ON TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS

(Adopted at its session held on August 1, 2012)

THE PERMANENT COUNCIL OF THE ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES,

BEARING IN MIND that the member states welcomed the 2010-2012 Work Plan against Trafficking in Persons in the Western Hemisphere through resolution AG/RES. 2551 (XL-O/10), adopted on June 8, 2010;

BEARING IN MIND ALSO item 3, paragraph 52 of said Work Plan, which refers to member states offering to host the Third Meeting of National Authorities on Trafficking in Persons;

TAKING INTO ACCOUNT resolution AG/RES. 2735 (XLII-O/12), “Advancing Hemispheric Security: A Multidimensional Approach,” adopted on June 4, 2012, and that in paragraph 35 it calls for the Third Meeting of National Authorities on Trafficking in Persons in the Western Hemisphere to be held on October 4 and 5, 2012 and thanks the Government of Guatemala for its offer to host that meeting;

CONVINCED that trafficking in persons is a grave global problem requiring ample, multidisciplinary international cooperation among all countries;

CONVINCED, TOO, that hemispheric efforts to combat trafficking in persons must be geared to the adoption of specific measures to prevent it and provide protection and comprehensive assistance to its victims, while guaranteeing the exercise of, and full respect for, human rights at both the national and international level, and to strengthening actions aimed at going after criminal organizations, as well as investigating, prosecuting, and punishing the crime; and

AWARE of the need to ensure that sufficient time and resources are set aside to hold the Third Meeting of National Authorities on Trafficking in Persons,


RESOLVES:

1. To convene the Third Meeting of National Authorities in Trafficking in Persons, to be held on October 15 and 16, 2012, in the Republic of Guatemala.

2. To ask the General Secretariat to provide the technical and administrative support needed to prepare said meeting and to make the necessary arrangements for holding it, subject to the availability of resources in the program-budget of the Organization and other resources for 2012.
