CHANGE OF DATE OF THE THIRD CONFERENCE OF STATES PARTY TO THE
INTER-AMERICAN CONVENTION AGAINST THE ILLICIT MANUFACTURING
OF AND TRAFFICKING IN FIREARMS, MUNITIONS, EXPLOSIVES
AND RELATED MATERIALES (CIFTA)
(Adopted at its session held on March 21, 2012)
THE PERMANENT COUNCIL OF THE ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES,
UNDERSCORING the importance of the Inter-American Convention against the
Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Munitions,
Explosives and Related Materials (CIFTA) for advancing public security
in the Americas;
RECALLING resolution AG/RES. 2627 (XLI-O/11), through which the General
Assembly originally convened the Third Conference of the States Party to
the Inter-American Convention against the Illicit Manufacturing of and
Trafficking in Firearms, Munitions, Explosives and Related Materials (CIFTA)
for March 28 and 29, 2012 at OAS headquarters to examine the functioning
and application of the Convention, in accordance with its Article
XXVIII;
TAKING NOTE of the results of the XIII Meeting of the Consultative
Committee of the Inter-American Convention against the Illicit
Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Munitions, Explosives and
Related Materials (CIFTA), held on February 10, 2012 at OAS
headquarters; and
CONSCIOUS of the need to ensure that sufficient time and resources exist
for the adequate preparation of activities in this regard,
RESOLVES:
1. To convene the Third Conference of the States Party to the
Inter-American Convention against the Illicit Manufacturing of and
Trafficking in Firearms, Munitions, Explosives and Related Materials (CIFTA)
for May 14 and 15, 2012 at OAS headquarters.
2. To request the General Secretariat to render the technical and
administrative support necessary to prepare for said meeting and to make
appropriate arrangements for it to be held, subject to the availability
of resources allocated in the program-budget of the Organization and
other resources for 2012
