DECLARATION ON THE POLITICAL SITUATION IN HAITI
(Adopted by the Permanent Council at the meeting
held on January 14, 2015)
THE PERMANENT COUNCIL OF THE ORGANIZATION OF
AMERICAN STATES,
BEARING IN MIND:
The provisions of the Charter of the OAS and the Inter-American
Democratic Charter and
The necessity to hold free and fair elections in Haiti to preserve the
constitutional order;
RECALLING:
The previous Declarations of the Permanent Council CP/DEC.53 (1965/14)
and CP/DEC.55 (1985/14) on the electoral process in Haiti;
TAKING INTO ACCOUNT:
All recent efforts undertaken by the Executive to organize free and fair
elections to include all stakeholders leading to a satisfactory
resolution of the political crisis;
CONSIDERING:
The informative presentation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E.
Duly Brutus, to the Permanent Council on the current political situation
of Haiti and the commitment of the Haitian authorities to hold those
elections this year;
DECLARES:
Its support for the constitutional Haitian authorities and all
stakeholders in their commitment to hold free, fair and inclusive
elections as soon as possible in accordance with the constitutional
provisions for the renewal of the democratic institutions.
