CP/DEC. 28 (1494/05)
DECLARATION OF THE
PERMANENT COUNCIL OF THE ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES
ON THE ACTS OF
TERRORISM PERPETRATED IN THE UNITED KINGDOM OF GREAT BRITAIN
AND
NORTHERN IRELAND ON JULY 7, 2005
(Adopted at its
session held on July 11, 2005)
The Permanent Council of the Organization
of American States declares its utter condemnation of the despicable and
cowardly acts of terrorism perpetrated this past Thursday, July 7, 2005,
in London, England, that have cost the lives of more than 50 innocent
persons and wounded more than 700 others.
We mourn this unspeakable tragedy in
solidarity with the community of nations of the Americas and proclaim,
publicly and unequivocally, our repudiation of such barbaric acts of
terrorism.
The Permanent Council reiterates that
acts of terrorism shock the conscience of all free and peace-abiding
individuals and constitute a grave threat to fundamental democratic
values and to international peace and security, and calls upon all
member states to combat terrorism within the framework of the
international commitments they have undertaken.
The Permanent Council conveys its deepest
condolences to the victims and their families and declares its
unreserved solidarity with the people and Government of the United
Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
