Rules of Procedure
of the Inter-American Juridical Committee

CHAPTER II
PURPOSES
Article 3: In
accordance with article 99 of the Charter of the
Organization and article 3 of the Statutes, the Committee
has the following principal purposes:
a) To serve as
an advisory body of the Organization on juridical matters of
an international character;
b) To promote at
the request of the organs mentioned in article 100 of the
Charter, or on its own initiative, the progressive
development and codification of international law, in
accordance with the purposes and principles of the Charter;
c) To study, at
the request of the organs mentioned in article 100 of the
Charter, or on its own initiative, the juridical problems
related to the integration of the developing countries of
the hemisphere and, insofar as may appear desirable, the
possibility of attaining uniformity in their legislation.
Article 4: The
Committee shall give priority to the matters that are
assigned to it by the General Assembly, the Meeting of
Consultation of Ministers of Foreign Affairs or the Councils
of the Organization. |
