Integrating  a Gender Perspective

in Ministerial-level Meetings

SEPIA II - Gender and Justice

In February 2002, recommendations on gender mainstreaming in policies and programs in the area of justice  were drafted in collaboration with ILANUD and representatives of the American University Law School, the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights (CIDH), the Center for Justice and International Law  (CEJIL), the International Association of Women Judges and the Inter-American Institute of Human Rights (IIDH).   These recommendations were subsequently presented to the Fourth Meeting of Ministers of Justice or of Ministers or Attorneys General of the Americas (REMJA IV), held in March 2002.  A follow up meeting, SEPIA II- Gender and Justice,  took place July 30-31 in Washington D.C., to analyze the results of the Ministerial and suggest strategies for implementing said recommendations.     The results of this meeting were transmitted to the REMJA IV participants. Follow-up activities are being carried out in partnership with CEJIL.
